13th June 2005 Attack on 'animals' A report is made to Derbyshire police of a big cat attack on (frustratingly) non-specific 'animals' near Belper.
10th July 2005 Swadlincote big cat sighting Police receive a report of a big cat near Swadlincote.
3rd January 2006 'Black panther' at Kirk Hallam Police receive a call from two people who claim to have seen a black cat. The animal roars as it leaves and is described as 'definitely' a panther.
17th June 2006 South Wingfield Police receive a written report - seemingly in response to recent mentions of a big cat in the media: "There has been a report of sightings of a large black cat like creature in the local paper. I have just seen one similar, it was massive."
19th June 2006 Multiple witness sighting Two separate groups of people report two sightings of a big cat to police. One of those reporting the sighting mentions a previous, unreported sighting which remains undocumented.
6th August 2006 Greenland Avenue Police diligently record a call regarding a gingery coloured cat seen on a suburban street said to have "ears much larger than a normal domestic cat." In addition, the creature is said to be larger than a normal cat.
3rd September 2006 Swadlincote A black cat is reported to police near Swadlincote - described as a 'panther'.
23rd November 2006 Darley Dale A black 'panther' is reported to have run in front of a vehicle.
3rd December 2006 Dronfield rabbit attack A rabbit hutch is attacked by a 'large' cat, leaving footprints in the soil. The hutch has been torn away from the shed to which it is attached.
28th May 2007 Black panther seen at Brassington a Police Incident report read "About an hour ago I saw a very big cat in Brassington. We were on the crossed the road and went round the field towards the Stone Works. It was definitely bigger than a dog and looked like a panther, it was black."
30th June 2007 - 10:30 Ashford in the Water 'Panther' A man travelling in a car reports seeing a large 'panther' - somewhat bigger than a dog. His wife and a friend also witness the mystery felid.
13th December 2007 Old Hackney Lane A man reports that he and his wife have seen a large black cat "larger than an alsatian" near their home in Hackney. The creature's other notable feature is a "long thin tail."
23rd November 2008 Buxton Road Chinley A Police Incident report records a man seeing a 'massive black animal' while walking his dog. Although he insists it was 'stalking' and therefore not a dog (as well as being too big) a police officer actually attends the scene and finds a large black dog in the area.
19th January 2009 Wirksworth: pawprints Reports of that cattle have been 'spooked' in a field near Wirksworth result in some kind of investigation. The police records do not indicate whether this was done by the police themselves, but photographs of a paw print with a 3 inch wide pad are taken before they are subsequently washed away by rain. The farmer - Peter Ward of Barrel Farm tells the local paper about the reaction of his livestock and how he came across the print:
"They were obviously distressed and initially I thought it must have been dogs but, when I found the paw print, I knew it must have been something else. From the research I have done, I think the markings are similar to those of a puma. I have compared it to my own dogs and it is nothing like that. I must say the idea of an animal like that prowling around makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck."
26th January 2009 Whatstandwell A Police Incident Report records what appears to a series of sightings of a mystery big cat by several people over some time: "I've been told by neighbours that police may be interested in the sighting of a big cat. My partner saw it last week on our patio and it jumped down 8ft and ran off. This morning I've been watching it stalking the cows at the back of our house in the field, and I've just seen it again stalking the cows. 2 walkers came along and startled it and it has run back in the woods so it's obviously living in there."
27th September 2009 Sandybrooke: sheep killings Two sheep are reported as having been killed by an unknown animal. The police records state that marks and state of the bodies make a cat more likely a killer than a dog.
6th April 2010 Littleover A "massive" black cat which moves "like a panther" is reported attacking a small dog.
30th May 2010 Nether Heage A large black 'panther' is reported walking down the road.
21st June 2010 Overseal A man reports seeing a big black cat in the area of Overseal. Having "gone on line" the witness is certain the cat was a black panther.
29th May 2011 Crich A caller to police reports that horses locally have been "spooked", noting that big cats have been reported recently in the area.
