The Beast of Stroud

Sightings Map

The gently undulating landscape of the Cotswolds may seem like an unlikely spot for a predatory, uncommonly large feline to be stalking deer, yet a spate of killings has suggested exactly that to locals and the press alike (although the press, of course, is always on the hunt for sensational prospects).

That said, if Britain does play host to exotic big cats, then Gloucestershire is no more or less likely than Surrey, with its famous puma.

Unusually, the beast has been more recently identified from deer carcases rather than from direct sightings of the cat itself. DNA tests on the carcases, however, proved negative in terms of felids.
