Sea Monsters
As an island race, it behoved the British to fill in the blanks of the world map. Spawning generations of explorers who charted the globe, tales reached us of distant lands and tempestuous seas.
Yet despite our own close relationship with the oceans, even the shores of our own tiny island seem to pulse with mysterious creatures that have no place in standard zoological treatises. Carcasses are washed ashore which suggest fearsome denizens of the deep. Ships report terrifying encounters with giant monsters. And mermaids still played in our coves into the 19th century according to some accounts. The seas remain restless and unfathomable.
