    The two women - aged 15 and 22 - are sent into the care of Earlswood Asylum.
  • 1963
    Nerissa and Katherine Bowes-Lyon: The Queen's Hidden Cousins: Deaths announced
    The 1963 edition of Burke's Peerage lists the two Bowes-Lyons as having died in 1961.
  • 1986
    Nerissa and Katherine Bowes-Lyon: The Queen's Hidden Cousins: Nerissa Bowes-Lyon dies
    Still in Earlswood asylum, Nerissa dies. Her funeral is attended by a handful of the nurses who cared for her, and she is buried in a pauper's grave.

    On the closure of Earlswood, Nerissa is moved to a private care home - alleged to be in Surrey.

    Aged 87, the Queen's 'secret' cousin dies peacefully at a care home, thought to be in Surrey.

    Nerissa and Katherine Bowes-Lyon: The Queen's Hidden Cousins: Katherine Bowes-Lyon death is announced
    Nearly 6 months after her death, an official announcement is made confirming that this is so. Buckingham Palace sources say that her death had been kept quiet because of the "crass intrusions" that had been made into her life in latter years by prurient journalists - particulary the Channel 4 team responsible for the documentary about the Bowes-Lyon sisters that was broadcast in 2012.
