Baby Examined by Bogus Social Worker in Gloucester

E-fit of the bogus social worker issued by Gloucester police.

A woman reported being visited by a social worker at her home in Deerhurst Place in Quedgeley near Gloucester. The visitor was described as a woman in her late twenties or early thirties, with shoulder length hair, a fair complexion and freckles.

According to the witness, the woman identified herself as being from Gloucester social care services and presented a false ID badge and documentation in a zip-up plastic bag. She told the witness that concerns had been raised about the welfare of her 4 month old son and proceeded to carry out an examination of the baby boy.

The police treated the incident seriously, telling reporters:

"We don't know what the motivation for this was but clearly it is very concerning. Our inquiries are ongoing. We have visited houses in the area to warn local people and would urge everyone to be vigilant. Remember, do not accept people into your house unless you are 100% sure you know who they are. You can always tell them to stay outside until you have made your own inquiries and if you are suspicious in any way, then call police. We have liaised with our partners at Gloucestershire social care services and they have alerted their staff to this incident."
