Shark Filmed in Suffolk River

As Britain's rivers have become cleaner over recent years - partly due to the massive move away from industrialisation, and partly due to more stringent controls on water quality - various species of creature have returned to haunt our waters. Otters were once on the brink of extinction, but have now been recorded in every English county in recent years. More startling are the occasional visits paid to the heart of the capital by porpoises and even the odd whale.

All that said, this footage of a 5ft shark swimming in the river near Manningtree is quite remarkable. The footage - said to have been confirmed as genuine by representatives from the RSPCA - was shot at the village of Cattawade, in the upper reaches of the River Stour.
