150000 Scottish Homes Without Power

The powerful winds and storms that battered Scotland on Thursday this week have left a trail in destruction in their wake. It is estimated that 150,000 homes were left without power as engineers battled to restore power infrastructure. By Friday afternoon there were still 10,000 homes without heating or light.

So powerful were the storms that it is thought they caused a wind turbine to burst into flame. The 328ft structure in Ayrshire sizzled in a spectacular fire as the nacelle which houses the turbine itself set alight.

The video below is ITN's bulletin of the events of the night - and includes some excellent footage of the turbine fire.
