The Preseli Hills

The bluestones that form the inner circle of Stonehenge were quarried here - possibly at the craggy outcropping known as Carn Menyn. Whilst some hold that the stones were moved to Stonehenge through glaciation, most researchers believe that the stones were taken from here to Salisbury over land and see - a distance of over 150 miles, undertaken with no modern machinery.

Some have seen this feat as evidence of otherwordly 'assistance', while most believe that it demonstrates the ceremonial importance of the stones for some long-forgotten reason.
