HMP Pentonville

Posted in > >

One of the most famous prisons in the British system, Pentonville was a place of execution between 1902 - when it replaced Newgate - and 1961. Among its one-time celebrity prisoners include such names as Oscar Wilde, George Michael and Pete Doherty, but it is perhaps better known as the place in which several notorious British killers met their own deaths - including John Christie, Dr. Crippen and the poisoner Frederick Seddon. In total, 120 people mounted the gallows at Pentonville.
